MAW Monthly Meeting: June

  • 02 Jun 2020
  • 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
  • Kensington Park Library: 4201 Knowles Ave, Kensington, MD 20895
Hello myco-philes - our June meeting will be virtual again, and this time we're going to hear from Dr. Christopher Smith of Lock Haven U.  One of Dr. Smith's primary areas of interest is Marine Mycology, the subject of Tuesday's lecture.  Life began in the sea, including our beloved fifth kingdom, and now we're going to learn how fungi evolved there before escaping their watery confines to dominate terra firma everywhere.

Dr. Smith is also an expert in white nose syndrome, the malicious fungal pathogen that's decimating bat populations.  If you have any questions re this topic, please be sure to ask.

We'll also hear a short talk on the prolific fungal mold, Syzygites megalocarpus, the fungus that eats everything, from MAWDC's Dr. William Davis.  And as if that weren't enough, we'll attempt a little online ID.  If you have an interesting find - in good condition - please have it available at the meeting, and we'll try and discuss it briefly.

The meeting will begin, as always, on the first Tuesday of the month (June 2nd) at 7 PM, and will last approximately an hour.  Perhaps a little more.  We'll be using the popular virtual meeting app Zoom, and you can find the link pasted below.  Normally all you need to do is clink on the link to log into the meeting, but if you're prompted for credentials, I've pasted those below as well.  See you then!
