MAW Monthly Meeting: December

  • 03 Dec 2019
  • 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
  • 4201 Knowles Ave, Kensington, MD 20895

It's December, which means we've arrived at our final MAW sponsored event of the calendar year, and what a busy (and successful) year it's been.

This month we're joined by John Dawson, the driving force behind the Eastern PA mushroom club and an expert in microscopic photography, which will be the subject of this lecture.  It's a timely theme too since MAW just acquired a microscope this year, and a camera for said microscope ... and now we're going to learn how to take good pictures.

Staying with the evening's photography theme, we're also going to have a short presentation on macro-photography from David Powell of the Silver Spring Photography Club in the first hour.

If you're into photography, this is the meeting for you.  Even if you aren't, I'd strongly recommend you make it out.  For one, this lecture was very well received at the Northeast Mycological Federation (NEMF) foray this summer, and two, it's a long break 'til we talk mushrooms again at our next monthly meeting (2/4/2020).

If you're interested in carpooling to the meeting, either as driver or passenger, please register at this location.

If you'd like to vote for MAW's 2020 officers, please remember to cast your vote by December 2nd.  We've switched to on-line voting this year, and here's a link for your convenience.

By the way, there's a FANTASTIC new movie out now called FANTASTIC FUNGI. This film stars all of mycology's most recognizable names, and the cinematography looks, well, fantastic.  Here's a link to the trailer, so you can see for yourself.  The AFI in Silver Spring will host a one night only special event with the film's producer on December 12th at 7pm, and you can purchase your tickets here.
