This presentation will cover the history of psilocybin research at Johns Hopkins, starting from its resurgence at the turn of the century, highlighting important findings, its impact, and future directions of the therapeutic applications of psilocybin.

Ethan Hurwitz has been a research coordinator at Johns Hopkins University for the past three years where he has conducted research with Dr. Roland Griffiths on several projects including comparative pharmacology in experienced hallucinogen users, a study of psilocybin experiences in religious leaders, psilocybin receptor binding via PET and fMRI scanning in healthy volunteers, as well as anonymous internet surveys of psychedelic-occasioned encounters with the divine and experiences that alter beliefs about death and dying. Mr. Hurwitz plans to pursue his graduate studies in cognitive psychology, and hopes to continue contributing to the growing research on psychedelics.
