Sandy Spring 2016 Mushroom Tasting
The only way to know if you like a mushroom’s taste is to cook it the right way and eat it!. Come to cook, or just come to taste.
Participation requires MAW membership and $10 per person participation fee. MAW one year membership fee is $20 single membership or $30 for family membership . Join Here and then a registration link for MAW members will be available on the Home Page under "Events" to register. MAW’s mushroom tastings feature mycophagy (mushroom-based cooking) – delicious and educational at the same time! Taste mushrooms you have never tried before, and compare the results of different mushroom preparation and preservation techniques. Which method of preparation works best? Dried reconstituted mushrooms or par-boiled or sautéed and frozen? Pickling? Sautéed or in soup? Which mushrooms might be improved by being pre-boiled in water? (Hint: it depends on which mushroom you have.) How does mushroom powder enhance the flavor of foods? Which do you prefer -- chicken mushroom or hen of the woods? Which makes better broth – black staining polypore or hen of the woods? Which makes better risotto – black trumpet chanterelles or boletes? And do you prefer truffle ice cream or candy cap ice cream?
Only your taste buds know for sure! Participants will vote for the best preparations and we will share our recipes.
