THE MYCOLOGICAL

ASSOCIATION OF

WASHINGTON, DC

MAW Monthly Meeting: July

  • 03 Jul 2018
  • 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
  • Kensington Park Library, 4201 Knowles Ave, Kensington, MD 20895

It's nearly Independence Day, and although we won't have any firetrucks or marching bands at our monthly meeting, long time MAW member and former president Ray LaSala will try to add some fireworks to your mushroom cookery.

Ray's lecture will focus on the proper technique(s) to collect, field dress and prepare foraged mushrooms for cooking along with some mushroom preservation tips.  Our former president has a wealth of experience in mycology, spanning several decades, with a keen interest in mycophagy.  So when you put down your sparklers and wine coolers to attend our Independence Day meeting, be sure to pack up some of your pressing culinary questions, this is the lecture to ask them.

By the way, mycophagy is a ten dollar word that means 'the eating of mushrooms'.  When you eat exclusively mushrooms, it's called 'fungivory'.  While we here at MAW just love our wild mushrooms, we recommend you strive for the former, and maintain a balanced diet.  : )

If you'd like to participate in a carpool, as a driver or looking for a ride, please add your info to this link.
